Things I Want to Share With People Who Identify as Young
Remember when you were a child, and you made a mistake and were able to laugh it off, and shout, do over?
If No, I’m sorry you weren’t afforded this fundamental human right. Please talk to your inner children about how you would have nurtured yourself better, with what you’ve learned since. You have one from every time you were so traumatized, you shut down emotionally, regardless of what triggered it, (and you’d be shocked by what can spark it because, through adult eyes, it often seems like typical childhood shit everyone goes through, even though every childhood is at least a little different, even between siblings.) Think about that. (Have fun with it. Your inner children are adorable, purely you, and it’s not their ((your)) fault.) Then start playing Do Over. It’s fun, and all the cool kids are doing it.
If Yes, then I’d like to remind you of this skill, because you can still do it as an adult. Mistakes/failures are the building blocks of success. Make them like you’re getting paid, and practice recovering and learning from them. This is what being young is about; making mistakes, healing, and learning from them, then adjusting so you can make better mistakes. Rinse and repeat until you start tripping because you just realized you got what you wanted. Then have a party or something, and do you like only you can do. 💪🏽👍🏽 (The order was deliberate. Bullshitting yourself is hella weak. Just saying.)
To those who just graduated, or are also freshly freaking out because it just sunk in that the whole freaking planet is expecting you to figure out what you’re going to do next, and the universe help you if it doesn’t generate enough income to live on:
I have a gift for you. Remember how the Night King lifted his arms to raise the dead to fight for him? Visualize him doing it for a second, (or go YouTube it.) Now do it, only as you slowly lift your arms, inhale as deeply as you can. Hold it in for a few seconds and imagine raising up the spirits of all your ancestors to gather around you and help you feel safe and supported. Like you’re the Glorious Hope of your entire ancestry that contributed to your specific DNA code. Because you are. And yes, it’s wicked cool. 😆 Then exhale and go about your biz. Name it. Use it. You’re welcome. (I call it my Night King Boost. I know. I’m basic.) 😂 I use it a few times a day, and it makes me feel awesome.
There’s more to come, so stay tuned if you want it.
Shit I’ve Noticed
I can tell what generation a person is from by how they respond to a compliment. (We’re getting better at it. Yay.)
Self-proclaimed sexual predator, aka 45, was never chosen by We The People. The Electoral College appointed him, and we know Russia interfered in the election in his favor. (Fuck Russia.)
Cats (at least mine) don’t have facial expressions. They emote with their whole body, often in subtle ways. I think this is why no matter how cute they are, they can be wicked creepy sometimes.
People are what make the world go round. Collectively, we’re incredible. (And insane, but I’m hopeful we’ll heal together as well as we fight together.)
I can’t laugh at Chris Rock anymore, because, as far as I know, he still hasn’t apologized to Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler. As adults, we can’t leave things like this at the wayside. Non-problematic white women are allies, and we can’t afford to shit on them. (If he did and I missed it, please tell me.)
Beyoncé never authorized anyone in The Hive to hurt people on her behalf. She doesn’t need saving. She’s good-good. Save that beautiful spirit for going after what makes you good-good. (How we do.) 💪🏽👍🏽💜
